Game Day

  • Masks Must Be Work By All at ALL Times
  • Parents, fans and spectators prohibited from entering the facility/gym. Games shall stop if fans enter the gym.
  • Teams Personnel Required: Coach, Asst, Equipment Manager, Scorekeeper, Building Supervisor. Limit 5 per team.
  • Pre-Game Cleaning by equipment manager. Each team brings their own wipes / sprays / hand sanitizers
    • Ball, Chairs/Bench, Scoring Table/Clock and other high-touch area
  • Coach responsible for printed Rosters, signed before game reviewing COVID Health Questions. Must include all players and personnel.
    • Retain the signed document for the season. Submit an image (photo or scan) within 12 hours of game to FCYBL site (TBD)
    • COVID Health Questionnaire – must be asked for each person
      • Fever
      • Cough
      • Sort Throat
      • Shortness of Breath
      • Close contact with someone with COVID-19
  • Building Supervisor from each team – primary role – prohibit entry to gym
  • Two 16 minute halves, with three timeouts per half
  •  Each player must rest for four consecutive minutes each half. Tracked by score keepers. Violation is game forfeit
  • VHSL Bench Guidance
    • Players should maintain 6 feet between all on bench and scoring table, and when entering game.
    • Team Personnel are in second row or bleachers
  • Ball should be sanitized by home team before game, and at all timeouts by equipment manager
  • No jump ball – visiting team gets first possession

COVID Exposure Rules

If someone on your team is exposed to a person with COVID-19, or tests positive to COVID-19

  • Per CDC guideline, they should self-quarantine for 10 days 
  • Report immediately to Club Rep, Club Rep must report to FCYBL Chairman
  • We will postpone any of your games scheduled 10 days from exposure
  • Your team may practice and compete again 10 days from exposure

Game Day Schedule – Over 90 Minute Block

0:00 -0:15 - Equipment Manager Time – cleaning/setup.  No one else allowed in gym

0:15 – 0:20 – Teams enter/warm up

0:20  - 0:50 – 1st Half (16 minute stopped time)

0:50 – 0:53 – Half Time

0:53 – 1:23 – 2nd Half (16 minute stopped time)

1:23 – 1:30 – Exit  (No post game team meeting)

NO OVERTIME = Tie (Everyone makes playoffs)

Program Summary

During the winter season, CYA offers players with a higher skill level an opportunity to participate in the countywide Fairfax County Youth Basketball League -- commonly known as Travel or Select. 

  • Tryouts are held for travel teams in grades 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th in early October.  Players must attend at least 2 tryouts.  After tryouts, the coaches select 10-11 players per team. 
  • Practice begins as soon as the teams are selected. This program requires a greater time commitment from participants for practice (3 hours per week) and games (1-2 per week).  The FCYBL season runs from mid-November through the beginning of March.  Most games are played at gyms across Fairfax County (often outside the Chantilly area) and in Falls Church, Arlington, or Alexandria.

Player Eligibility

The travel teams are grade-based  This means anyone in the designed grade can participate as long as they are not more than 2 years older than others in that grade as of September 1st of that year.   All players will be expected to provide documentation of their current grade (report card) along with a Walker ID once selected to a team.

Eligible CYA players must reside in Fairfax County and, by FCYBL rules, are limited to our allocated zip codes (22033, 22030, 20151, 20171, 22124, 20191 and 20120), with 2 zip code exceptions allowed per team.

Note that FCYBL also strictly limits the number of players in 4th grade or below who can be selected to the 10 and under teams. For that reason, a separate qualifying tryout will be held for 4th graders prior to the 5th grade tryouts.  At this 4th grade tryout, a limited number of players will then be invited to participate in the 5th grade tryouts.

Registration Information

Online registration for the Travel tryouts season will begin in early September. You must register (at no cost) for Travel/AAU tryouts in order to participate in the tryouts and be invited to join a team if selected.

Once the Travel tryouts conclude and the teams are selected, those players who made the teams will be sent an invitation to participate in our program and directed to register for the Travel program at a total cost of $375.00 (which can be made in up to 3 payments). In addition, Travel players must purchase a travel uniform.

For those players who did not make the team, they will be notified and invited to sign up for our House program if they choose to do so. If someone signed up for House and made the travel team, they will be refunded that House registration fee.
