CYA Basketball Community,
As many of you know, the beginning of September is traditionally the time of the year that we begin preparations for winter basketball, both travel and recreational. This year is different, as we continue to observe the guidelines set out by the State of Virginia and the CDC.
We recognize that many kids are anxious to return to basketball and are working toward a plan that safely allows players to return to the court when Virginia moves into the next phase. Safety and compliance with the state are our priorities.
Beyond the state’s guidelines, we are also dependent on county gym space, mostly school allocations. We have submitted our application for county gym space, as usual. With the operating status of schools, we are not sure we will be given space, and would rely solely on commercial gym space, which would limit our ability to run a program.
The Fairfax County Youth Basketball League (FCYBL), the governing organization of travel basketball, has posted on their website that they are, “in a wait and see mode on what the season will look like or if we will have one.” When they make a decision, we can move forward with planning for a potential travel season.
